The 2000 Vintage


The 2000 vintage is devoted to our friend, Barbara Olson, who was lost to us on September 11. The packaging is elegantly fashioned with a medallion in her memory and decorates every bottle of the 2000 Pillar Rock.

This wine was the #1 Barrel lot at the 2002 Napa Valley Wine Auction.

The grapes were picked at a maturity point that makes sumptuous wine with depth, body, texture, and elegance.

The wine is aged in premier new French oak barrels crafted by 4 tonnelleries.

2000 Cabernet Sauvignon
Growing Season 2000 was a "dream season" in the Napa Valley...cool, even growing season despite three days of record breaking heat in June. Bud-break in late March, harvest in late October. Slow steady ripening with good flavors developing early with deep color.
Vineyard The 22-acre estate in the heart of the Stags Leap District is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Stags Leap District is renowned for its elegant, distinctive and full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon.

Fermentation & Aging The fully ripened grapes were selectively picked in the vineyard and carefully hand sorted at the winery. Fermentation took place in small, temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. After pressing and settling, both the Cabernet and Merlot were gently aged for 20 months in new French oak barrels from the Nevers and Allier forests sourced by 4 different Tonnelleries. Blending with the Merlot occurred just before bottling.

Sizes: 1,319 750ml 6-bottle wooden cases, 1.5L, 3.0L & 6.0L bottles in individual wooden boxes.

Winemaker's Comments The Pillar Rock Vineyard 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon has the elegance, style and body of a great red wine from the Stags Leap District. It was a wonderful growing season and it shows in this vintage. It surely will age well for decades.
Special Note The 2000 vintage is dedicated to our friend, Barbara Olson, who was lost to us in the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Barbara was instrumental in the success of our first vintage. She was, and continues to be, an inspiration to us. In tribute to her, each bottle is decorated with a commemorative medallion in her memory.
